![]() ![]() When you unplug and replug in the 5D do you the restart the dashboard software too? There was a USB issue a while back I think for Seagate or WD USB externals at one point where they would unmount and have issues with sleep. I am getting close to either using the Drobo 5N as my NAS and abandoning the attached storage, or trying a LaCie TB drive (I have heard they too have had problems with false ejections, though).it seems to be a real problem if OS X in general fails when you use external drives, so one would think Apple would be aggressively researching this given the postings I have found that suggest this is not an isolated problem to my system or my Drobo. I don't know if the Drobo5D is, underneath, a linux box as is the 5N, in which something in linux is getting wedged, or it is a hardware reset problem. It is surprising, however, that the Drobo does not reconnect when I unplug and replug the cable, and requires a reboot.that is bothersome but likely related to the underlying firmware. ![]() The problem is that every manufacturer does something different when they detect a lower power on the bus, so it's hard to know who is at fault here. Quite a number of postings lay the blame on OS X, so I'm not quite sure who to blame at this point. In their defense, there are a lot of postings online about people with inappropriate TB and USB (and FW) disk ejections under later versions of Mountain Lion and under Mavericks, which may relate to the very low power on the bus when the modern Macs go to sleep, which causes a variety of vendors' disks to falsely eject. Well, the Drobo people have been pretty responsive thus far in working through this with me (not that I wouldn't like them to propose sending me another unit to test, to see if it is Drobo-generic or if I have a defective unit) and they have told me that are also trying to work with Apple. My next step may well be to purchase another Thunderbolt drive as an experiment, but they are not cheap (!) and there is no point if this is a known Mavericks or MacPro problem. I have read some reports online of TB problems when various Macs wake from sleep, more under Mavericks than Mountain Lion, but so far nothing similar to what I am experiencing. ![]() The Drobo folks have been working with me, and I have sent in numerous logs from the Drobo and the MacPro, but so far aside from the suggesting not to let the Mac sleep, no solutions yet. (I don't have another Thunderbolt drive). This does NOT occur when the Drobo is connected via USB3.Īnother drive, connected via the Thunderbolt to Firewire adapter, did not show this problem. The display connected by Thunderbolt NEVER has this problem, nor do any devices connected through the display (keyboard, mouse, etc). I have tried the Drobo on 5 of the 6 TB ports (the 6th being used for a display) with no difference - so it has been tested on all three of the Mac Pro's TB controllers. The only way to reconnect it is to power cycle the Drobo rebooting the Mac Pro does NOT fix the problem, nor does disconnecting and reconnecting the Drobo. As best as I can tell, whenever the Mac Pro wakes from sleep, it fails to reconnect to the Drobo (or the Drobo fails to reconnect to it. The problem is that the Drobo is "improperly ejected" on a regular basis. I am wondering if anyone has any thoughts or suggestions.Ĭonfiguration: 2013 MacPro, 6 core, dual D700, 16GB Drobo 5D connected via Thunderbolt. ![]()
